This is going to be a quickie because I managed to TOTALLY forget about writing this post last night. And although I would much rather stay home and read and blog, work does beckon.
So...the best of the best (so far). I have to admit, I've had some amazing reads so far this year, but these four definitely beat out the rest. I could definitely link to the reviews BUT I am in desperately need of a second cup of coffee and must leave the house in less than thirty minutes. Argh.
Cheers! And happy reading.

I loved The Count of Monte Cristo! It was one of my very first engrossing reads as a teenager (forever ago). It might be due for a reread!
ReplyDeletehaving seen the count of monte cristo movie I really want to read the book! It's been on my to read list for ages! But I haven't managed to get a copy yet!

I love that you have two classics on your list! I, too, loved The Count of Monte Cristo which I read years ago, but I've not yet read The Mill On The Floss. (I hope it's not like Middlemarch? That one didn't speak to me at all!) I hope you got to work on time, isn't it the worst to rush out the door when you want to stay posting and reading others' posts? ;)
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! Three of the four listed are on my must read list for this year. Perhaps I should add the Fairyland book as well. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI want to read The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland as well! It seems to be a kickass fairytale/princess story in the vein of Brave. Great picks!
ReplyDeleteOh man, I haaaated the end of The Mill on the Floss. But I totes respect that you have it on here. ;)
ReplyDeleteI agree Gone Girl was sooo good, and The Count of Monte Cristo is aweseom as well!
ReplyDeleteCatherynne Valente is such a great author- I can't wait for the sequel to The Girl who Circumnavigated Fairyland - very excited about it!
ReplyDeleteI've heard some really fantastic things about The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making [wow- that's a mouthful!]. It seems like such a fantastic read, and seeing it on your list is making me want to read it ASAP! I'll definitely be pushing that one up on the TBR, though. I'm glad to see that you enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteFabulous list!

ReplyDeleteIt really is great to see classics make the best of lists. I think sometimes we get wrapped up in the new shinies and it is refreshing to know people still enjoy the old stuff :) Thanks for sharing!

I agree with you on "The Count of Monte Cristo." I must have read that classic 5 times if once.
