TSS - Olympic Sized Reading

Ummm, hello!  THE OLYMPICS are here.  So excited.  Admittedly, I have only recently become interested in the O's.  Like, when I was a kid - or even in my twenties - I was fairly apathetic.  I'm a person who needs to feel connected in order to like a sport.  I can't just root for someone because of a sense of loyalty.  (Like, even though I graduated from UCF, I don't get that nail-biting excitement that other alums do when there's a football game).  Plus, because I never really paid attention in PE, I don't know rules.  So over the past few Olympics I've been watching the prelim's and reading about the athletes, all ammunition to root my heart bahybee!

Aaaand speaking of the Olympics...Random House Canada is hosting an Olympics Readathon.  Seriously.  How cool is that?!  I'm happily taking part even though I'm nowhere near Canada.  My goal is to read 1400 pages over the course of the Olympics.  I'm sorta aiming high with that number, since it's about 100 pages a day, but if it wasn't a wee bit difficult then it wouldn't be a challenge right?  If you're taking part the hashtag is #OlympicReadathon.  Also, let me know, so I can cheer you on!

In other news not of Olympic proportion, I'm pushing myself even further in the reading arena by signing up for TWO readalongs for August.  I have to admit, I am a wee bit nervous about this.  I'm was successful both with the Standalong and the Anna Karenina readalong (kinda, I missed a day...) but I didn't do them simultaneously.  BUT both books are on my Classic Books Club challenge list so why not, right?

The first one is hosted by the community building and spirited Andi over at Estella's Revenge.   She's hosting the North and South readalong (Twitter tag #nsread).  The schedule is as follows:

  • August 6th   Chapters 1 -14
  • August 13th  Chapters 15 - 27
  • August 20th  Chapters 28 - 39
  • August 27th  Chapters 40 - 52

The second readalong i hosted by the hilarious Reading Rambo.  I totally loved participating in her Norwegian Wood ral PLUS the book is Wilkie Collin's The Moonstone.  What the what?!  If interested, sign up here.  Schedule will be coming up soon.

  1. I love The Moonstone's cover art. Notice that Dorothy Sayers name is much bigger than Wilkie Collins' name...

  2. I saw that James! In fact, it was one of the first things I noticed from the cover art. It was one of those, "wait a minute, Sayers didn't write this book - did she ALSO write a book TITLED Moonstone? If so I'm signing up for the wrong readalong..." And then I saw Wilkie's tiny name in the corner. Poor Wilkie.

  4. You are like the classics queen this summer! Goodness gracious!

I started North and South this morning (audio) but I secretly admit I might be reading 50 shades so won't get any other reading in until I'm done. Eeep!
